Backing up legal documents: the insurance you only value afterwards

Powers of attorney, contracts and evidence that cannot disappear.

A hard drive that stops working, a file deleted by mistake, a computer infected with ransomware. For the firm, the result is the same: client documents that no longer exist.

The 3-2-1 rule

A classic information security benchmark:

  • 3 copies of the data;
  • On 2 different media;
  • With 1 off-site (for example, in the cloud).

What must be in the backup

  • Case documents (powers of attorney, contracts, evidence, filings);
  • Client and case records;
  • Financial receipts;
  • The firm's document templates.

A backup that isn't tested isn't a backup

Many firms discover their backup wasn't working exactly when they need it. Periodically run a restore test on a few files.

Automate it

A backup that depends on someone remembering to copy a folder will fail. Copying should happen automatically, ideally the moment a document is uploaded.

Backups and data protection

Brazil's data protection law requires security measures that protect data against accidental loss and destruction. A documented backup policy is part of that protection.

How IntegraLegal solves this

In IntegraLegal, every document uploaded to cases, case updates and the CRM Hub gets a cloud copy at the same instant, verified by size and hash. The Backup Center shows the status of the copies, and restoring brings back only what's missing, without overwriting anything.

Sleep soundly about your clients' documents: see the plans.
